Hello. I'm Alicia Anne. I'm very creative, artistic, and energetic, which is probably why I am a dancer and a soccer player. I have been dancing since I was three at VanDyke and Company and I love it. I do ballet, modern, and pointe. I also enjoy playing soccer for our school, number 15!! I want to be a marine biologist when i get older, not only because i love the beach but i also love sharks. They are by far my favorite animal. In what little spare time I do have I enjoy running, listening to music, and eating.

Fire Cherry

Scientific Name - Prunus Pensylvanica
Deciduous or Coniferous - deciduous
Leaf type - smooth, skinny
Leaf Arrangement - Whorled
Provides Habitat and/food for- the winter moose and lepidoptera. seeds and fruit are often used for bird seed
Organism that Infects tree: Unfortunately i was not able to find an organism that infects this particular tree.
Trees in the prunus genus usually have white to pink flowers with five petals and five sepals, they also produce a form of fruit.
It belongs to the magnoliopsida class. the main thing that everything in this class has in common is that they are all flowering plants.
Although it has very little commercial use, recent studies have shown that the fruit can be used in jams, jellies, and preserves.
The twigs of the tree are small and thin in diameter with lateral buds that grow on them.
They are mostly found in the eastern United States, which means they are native to PA


Cucumber Magnolia

Scientific Name:Magnolia acuminata
This particular tree is good for shade.
Although most trees that belong to the magnolia genus don't grow as tall, most do flower.
Generally planted for shade especially in parks. Although they are not recommended to be used as street trees. As far as being used for timber this tree can be interchanged with the tuliptree.
The twigs on the Cucumber Magnolia are dark brown and of a medium sized diameter.
This tree is native to the Appalachian Belt. Including the Allegheny Plateau and Cumberland Plateau. up to western Pennsylvania and New York.

Marine Bacteria

The steps in the dichotomous key are organized from the biggest group to the smallest group.
b. What is the purpose of a dichotomous key?
The purpose of a dichotomous key is to classify data.

c. What characteristics were used in the steps of the dichotomous key?
The process of elimination was used in the steps of the dichotomous key.

d. Which bacteria are you most closely related to?
I am most closely related to Lamprocyclas Maritalis.
e. Which bacteria are you most different from?
I am most different from Trichodesmium erythraeum.


After looking at all of the sets of data I choose to graph the data for; apples, bananas, carrots, and peas. I found that apples have simple sugars but do not have starches fats or protein. Next I found that bananas do have simple sugars, starches, and fats, but do not have protein. After that I found that carrots have starches, but no fats, simple sugars, or protein. and lastly I found that peas have starches, fats, and proteins, but do not have simple sugars. The main thing I concluded by looking at the graph I made was that there are more simple sugars present in fruits than there are in vegetables.

Biomolecule questions:
1. The biomolecule that I found in the onion was carbohydrates. It did not have proteins, starches, or oils and fats.
2. Certain biomolecules cause that same reaction at whatever heat but others do not. With the beef we tested it reacted evey time. But, when we tested the onion it only reacted when the hydrogen peroxide was heated.
3. I learned that ground beef has proteins and fats and oils, but onions have carbohydrates and neither have starches.

Catalase Activity:

When we did this activity we found that the ground beef on average reacted on a larger scale to the hydrogen peroxide than the onion this is probably because the onion does not have catalase to react with. the onion does not have catalase because it does not need it to survive like the cow that the ground beef was taken from. Although i am not absolutely sure why it seemed that the ground beef reacted with the hydrogen proxide the most when it was cold more than when it was warm or hot.

Why did the hyrogen peroxide react with the ground beef the most when it was cold?
When i researched this question i found that catalase usually reacts best at room temperature or normal body temperature. This is probably because catalase is found in the body and typically reacts at body temperature. Because we were measuring the reactions one at a time it is very possible that we measured them wrong. Also because we were measuring them based on how big we thought the reaction was. So this error in our testing could have been because we judged a reaction wrong.

Chromatography Lab

While all leaves do not have the same type of chlorophyll some do have the same pigments. A good way to support this is with the data from both classes it showed in one instance that the Rf value of plant b's first pigment was 0.14 which is the same as plant g's third pigment. This is just one case in which our data shows this. While i realize that with our lab some groups that did the same plant did not find the same RF value for the same type of leaf but this could be due to many possible reasons, such as, an error in calculations, someone spilling the alcohol onto the filter paper washing away some of the pigment, or some one not measuring the pigments correctly.

Light Intensity Activity

background information:
light intensity ranges from ultraviolet to infared with ultraviolet being the stronger rays.
the higher the energy the shorter the wavelength, the lower the energy the longer the wavelength


Wavelength and light intensity are very important to photosynthesis because with out the exact amount of each to make the maximum amount of ATP, which is important to make energy for the plant. When my group observed the simulation we found that to make the maximum amount of ATP you needed a light intensity of 200 and a wavelength of 425.
While viewing the simulation I realized that a light intensity of 200 with any wavelength will make ATP, but it is not always the maximum amount.


Yeast Respiration Lab

first step 6 table spoons of flour

second step after adding yeast

third step add warm water

fourth step add oil and salt

fifth step kneed dough until it is completely mixed

step six bake and eat

Yeast Respiration Lab

A few things I was able to conclude from this lab was that the yeast will not react in the solution if too much sugar or too little sugar is in the solution. Also I was expecting it to give off more gas then it did. Only one balloon had a noticeable difference after sitting over night.

DNA replication project

we start out with a double helix


next we see the helix begin to unwind and the bases begin to separate.


after the DNA has unwound strand one of the double helix gets a new strand two and strand two of the original helix gets a new strand one


lastly we see the hydrogen bonds form between the bases and the DNA wind back into a helix


Class Traits.

In class we did a survey of who has which traits. Two of the traits that we surveyed are hitchhikers thumb and being right handed, which are both dominant traits. We can definitely see that being right handed is a dominant trait by the numbers that appear in the survey, but this is not so obvious when we are speaking in terms of hitchhikers thumb. The numbers for right-handed definitely showed that it was a dominant trait with thirteen out of thirteen girls being right handed and four out of five guys being right handed, this was not so obvious in the numbers for hitchhikers thumb with only three girls out of thirteen and three boys out of five having that trait. Specifically in my family it is also obvious that being right handed is dominant because 4 out five people in my immediate family are right-handed My brother, sister, and I are all right-handed, in order for that to happen my mother would have to be right handed with a RR or Rr because, my father is left-handed, his genotype would have to be rr. It was by luck of the draw that my siblings and I all ended up being right handed out of the possible genotypes of four Rr if my mother was RR and the other genotypes of two Rr and two rr. In other words the law of independent assortment allowed us to all end up being right handed.
